When is the best age to spay/neuter?

Please do not wait any longer than five months of age to Spay or Neuter!

We believe the greatest cause of our cat overpopulation is owners and caregivers waiting until the feline is sexually mature before reaching out to spay or neuter.

Sexual maturity in felines can occur as early as FIVE MONTHS! Many people wait until the feline is at least six months of age before making plans to spay or neuter. That timing is too late, in our opinion. We know this fact because we work with felines and see the tragic results of unwanted pregnancies or fighting and marking.

We urge this protocol:

1. De-worm beginning at five weeks of age.

2. Vaccinate beginning at eight or nine weeks of age.

3. Spay/Neuter between the ages of three and five months.

Do Not wait past five months if you want to avoid the consequences of sexual maturity! Thank you

Make your veterinarian appointment at 12 weeks of age

Because veterinarian appointments can be difficult to secure and require a two month lag, please call to make the spay/neuter appointment when the kitten is 12 weeks of age, which will enable it to be "fixed" when it is 4 to 5 months of age. Do not wait until they are sexually mature to make the appointment.
